The Electoral Commission are urging people to make sure they are registered to vote ahead of the general election on 4 July.

It’s the last day to register in time for the general election, the deadline is 11.59 pm (BST) on Tuesday 18 June.

Since the election was called on 22 May, over 2.1 million applications have been made to register to vote.

Registering takes around five minutes and can be done online at GOV.UK.

“Anyone that wants to have their say at the ballot box must be registered to vote before the deadline of midnight on Tuesday. Registering online is quick and simple so don’t put it off any longer.

“Our research shows that some groups of people are less likely to be registered, including young people, private renters and those who have recently moved house. If you know anyone who hasn’t yet registered, let them know that time is running out ahead of this general election.”

– Craig Westwood, Director of Communications at the Electoral Commission

Voters need to have a suitable form of photographic identification with them when they go to the polling station.

You can apply for an Electoral Identity Card if you have no suitable forms of identification.

Register to vote before the deadline at 11.59 pm on Tuesday 18 June. Find out more here.
