Sinn Féin announce Assembly candidates in multiple constituencies ahead of election next year

Sinn Fein candidates in Upper Bann

Sinn Féin has announced more candidates for next year’s Assembly election.

In Newry and Armagh, they are standing Infrastructure Minister Liz Kimmins and sitting MLAs Aoife Finnegan and Cathal Boylan.

Economy Minister Caoimhe Archibald is hoping for re-election in East Londonderry alongside Kathleen McGurk – a councillor on Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council. In the 2024 general election, McGurk reduced Gregory Campbell’s majority to just 179 votes.

If both are elected, it would be the first time Sinn Féin has elected two MLAs in East Londonderry.

The TUV has announced that councillor Allister Kyle will stand for them in East Londonderry.

The party also wants to elect another MLA in South Down. They currently have two and if all their candidates were to be elected next year, it would bring them to three.

Their South Down candidates are sitting MLAs Sinead Ennis and Cathy Mason, alongside councillor Michael Rice.

Ciarán O’Connor is standing in East Antrim as the party hopes to elect a nationalist MLA to the constituency. Sinn Féin’s Oliver McMullan previously held a seat in East Antrim, but he lost it in 2022.

Finance Minister John O’Dowd is standing for re-election in Upper Bann, and the party also hopes to elect councillor Catherine Nelson. Sinn Féin currently has one MLA in Upper Bann.
