Moira Doherty has been announced as the new Permanent Secretary of The Executive Office.

She has been leading the department on an interim basis since February but has now been made permanent, says the Head of the Northern Ireland Civil Service, Jayne Brady.

The previous Permanent Secretary, David Malcolm, was moved to the Department of Education in February.

Moira joined the Northern Ireland Civil Service in 1999 and has held a range of senior leadership roles across a number of departments, spanning strategic, operational and community-focused areas.

She is a visiting professor at Ulster University and a member of the Steering Group for the Masters in Public Administration. She is also a parent governor on the Board of Governors at Lagan College.

Permanent Secretaries are the principal advisers to ministers for all departmental activities; they are responsible for managing their NICS department, its staff and resources and are members of the NICS Board.

The salary scale for the position of Permanent Secretary is between £146,469 and £163,267.
