Brian Thompson has been co-opted to Mid and East Antrim Borough Council to replace Colin Crawford MLA, who replaced Robin Swann in the Assembly.
Cllr Thompson will represent the Ballymena District Electoral Area (DEA) for the Ulster Unionist Party (UUP).
The Chief Electoral Officer for Northern Ireland, Dr David Marshall, confirmed the change on Tuesday.
The UUP are yet to release a statement relating to the change.
Claire Hanna will be the new leader of the Social Democratic and Labour Party after she was the only candidate to be nominated for the position. She will take over from Colum Eastwood at the party conference on 5 October 2024.
Following Colum Eastwood’s shock resignation as leader of the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) last week, Claire Hanna has confirmed that she will stand to be the next leader of the party.
The Ulster Unionist Party has confirmed their new leader will be Mike Nesbitt. This will be his second stint in the job, he was leader from 2012 until 2017. He will remain as Health Minister in the Northern Ireland Executive.
