First Minister Michelle O’Neill and Deputy First Minister Emma Little-Pengelly welcomed the new Deputy Prime Minister to Northern Ireland, in her first official visit yesterday.
Angela Rayner met with the leaders of the Executive at Hillsborough Castle, along with Fleur Anderson, who is serving as the Under-Secretary of State in the Northern Ireland Office.
This follows Prime Minister Keir Starmer‘s visit at the start of July, following Labour’s general election victory.
O’Neill and Little-Pengelly used the meeting to highlight the key issues facing the Executive.
The Northern Ireland Office said the group “discussed the importance of working together to address the challenges facing communities across Northern Ireland.”
Funding for public services is a common issue raised by all parties in the Executive and will have no doubt been discussed.
NI Secretary Hilary Benn is also yet to make a decision on the future of Casement Park, which has been included in the UK and Ireland’s Euro 2028 bid but is currently derelict.
