Secretary of State for Northern Ireland
Prime Minister Keir Starmer has appointed Fleur Anderson as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State in the Northern Ireland Office, as part of the new Labour government.
As part of Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s new cabinet, Hilary Benn has been appointed Secretary of State for Northern Ireland. He had the Northern Ireland brief in the shadow cabinet since September 2023.
With Labour expected to come into power later this year, their Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary Hilary Benn has been meeting with ministers and parties at Stormont.
Hilary Benn makes his first visit to Northern Ireland in his new role as Shadow Secretary of State, to have discussions with the main political parties.
The appointment is part of Keir Starmer’s frontbench reshuffle, in which he also appointed Hilary Benn as Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary.
In a reshuffle of his shadow cabinet, the Labour leader has given Hilary Benn a new role whilst moving the former shadow NI secretary to a new department.
