Chris Todd is appointed temporary deputy chief constable of the PSNI

The current deputy chief constable, Mark Hamilton, has been out of office after undergoing medical treatment in September.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland has appointed Chris Todd as temporary deputy chief constable.

This comes as the current deputy chief constable, Mark Hamilton, has been out of office after undergoing an unplanned medical procedure in September.

The temporary appointment will be reviewed in two weeks’ time, as reported by BBC News NI.

Chris Todd joined the PSNI in March 2022, transferring from West Midlands Police.

He is now second in command, under the current interim chief constable Jon Boutcher.

Who will get the permanent chief constable job?

It was reported earlier in the month that two applicants have been shortlisted, and will be interviewed for the permanent chief constable job.

The current interim chief constable, Jon Boutcher, is in the running, along with the current assistant chief constable Bobby Singleton.

ACC Singleton will be interviewed for the job on November 6th.
