UPDATE 09/08/2023: The recount has now taken place and the SDLP have held the seat.

The Alliance Party submitted a complaint over the election result in the Waterside DEA of Derry City and Strabane District Council in June.

It has now been revealed that a recount is going to take place this week.

The recount will take place in the Foyle Arena on Wednesday, starting at stage seven of the count, as originally reported by BBC News.

Alliance lost both of their councillors in the May election, Rachael Ferguson and Philip McKinney,

Philip McKinney lost his seat by a slim margin of just 49 votes.

There were still approximately 150 votes still to be transferred when Mr McKinney was eliminated, and the last seat went to the SDLP’s Martin Reilly.
