Following the local council elections in May, the Alliance Party have confirmed they have submitted a complaint to the High Court over the result in the Waterside DEA, part of Derry City & Strabane District Council.
Alliance lost their only two seats in the council in the May 2023 election.

In a statement, the Alliance Party said:
“An Election Petition was lodged today in the High Court in Belfast by the Alliance Party regarding the 19 May election count for Waterside DEA.
“Since the matter is now in the hands of court matter, it’s not appropriate for the Alliance Party to make further public comment.”
This story was originally reported by Derry Now, who understand that a significant number of votes were not counted in the Waterside DEA which could have affected the outcome.
