Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has announced that the next general election will be held on Thursday 4 July. He made the announcement outside a rainy 10 Downing Street after months of speculation.
Simon Harris has become the youngest ever Taoiseach at just 37 years old. His appointment comes after Leo Varadkar’s shock announcement last month that he would step down from the position after being re-appointed to the role in December 2022.

She replaces Grant Shapps who has moved to the Ministry of Defence.
