Leader of the Democratic Unionist Party, Member of Parliament for Belfast East
The new deputy leader of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) is Michelle McIlveen MLA, party chairman Lord Morrow has confirmed. Party leader Gavin Robinson has also been re-elected.
A former Ulster Unionist Party councillor, who quit the party after he wasn’t chosen to replace Robin Swann at Stormont, despite being endorsed by then party leader Doug Beattie, has joined the DUP.
DUP leader Gavin Robinson MP has confirmed that his party intend to pull the Stormont Brake mechanism for the first time, after being introduced as part of the Windsor Framework. It is expected to pass with support from all unionist parties in the Assembly.

Serving as MP for East Belfast, Robinson has been deputy leader of the DUP since June 2023, he has been an ally of Jeffrey Donaldson and was involved in the negotiations that lead to power-sharing being re-established.
Sir Jeffrey Donaldson has stepped down as leader of the DUP and has been suspended by the party after being charged with ‘historical sex offences’. Gavin Robinson MP is to serve as interim party leader.
