Stormont’s new Standards Commissioner has resigned after just over a week in post. Mark McEwan was appointed after approval from the Assembly. He is joining Surrey Police as their new Deputy Chief Constable.
A former senior PSNI officer is set to take up the role of Assembly Commissioner for Standards after he was selected by the Northern Ireland Assembly Commission. Mark McEwan will replace Melissa McCullough after her term ended.
The Assembly has been recalled and will meet on Thursday 8 August at noon to discuss the recent disorder in Belfast, the Speaker has notified MLAs following a recall petition by the Alliance Party.
With Labour expected to come into power later this year, their Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary Hilary Benn has been meeting with ministers and parties at Stormont.
The Prime Minister and Taoiseach have both visited Belfast to meet with the new Northern Ireland Executive and political leaders.
