Colum Eastwood has said he will vote in favour of the Assisted Dying Bill in the House of Commons on Friday – he is the only MP from Northern Ireland who will vote in favour, with every other party voting against.
Alex Easton has co-opted DUP councillor Peter Martin to replace him in the Northern Ireland Assembly, following his election as a Member of Parliament last week. Easton left the DUP in 2021, but has said he will not be rejoining.
Easton has been in the Assembly since 2003 and was first elected as a DUP candidate, but resigned from the party in 2021. He is to stand in North Down in the upcoming general election against Alliance’s Stephen Farry.
