Councillor Nancy Eaton has left her role on Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council to pursue a master’s degree abroad.
She represented the Alliance Party throughout her term after being elected for the first time in the 2023 local council elections.
Eaton told the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS) that she was “privileged to represent everyone in the constituency of Castlereagh South.”
“Being a councillor has helped me to progress towards the next stage in my professional life,” she added.
“I will now be going to the Netherlands to complete a Master’s in international relations at the University of Groningen. I would like to take the opportunity to thank my colleagues and fellow elected representatives for their welcome to the chamber and good wishes for the future.”
The Alliance Party will now have to select a replacement to be co-opted onto the council.
The Castlereagh South DEA (District Electoral Area) has three Alliance councillors, two Sinn Fein, one DUP and one SDLP.
Alliance became the second largest party on Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council in the 2023 election, with a total of 13 seats, behind the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) with 14 seats.
