Only one Member of Parliament (MP) from Northern Ireland has said they will vote in favour of the Assisted Dying Bill in the House of Commons.
Foyle MP Colum Eastwood told BBC News that his decision to vote in favour of the bill was influenced by “all the people that I have known who have had difficult, bad deaths”.
He also said he was confident that “there are enough safeguards in this law,” while speaking on Good Morning Ulster.
SDLP leader Claire Hanna, MP for South Belfast and Mid Down, has said she will abstain from the vote on Friday.
Every other MP from Northern Ireland, including those from the DUP, UUP, TUV, and Alliance, has said they will vote against the bill.
Independent MP for North Down, Alex Easton, will also vote against the bill.
The bill will not apply in Northern Ireland as this is a devolved matter that is handled by the Assembly.
MPs are free to vote how they wish on Friday as it is not whipped by their parties.
Northern Ireland Secretary Hilary Benn will be voting in favour.
