The new chair of the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee (NIAC) will be Labour MP Tonia Antoniazzi.
She was elected unopposed to the position, the Speaker of the House of Commons announced on Monday.
Antoniazzi was first elected to Parliament in 2017 and represents Gower in Wales.
In 2021 she was appointed as a Shadow Minister for Northern Ireland and worked as a Parliamentary Private Secretary (PPS) to Shadow Northern Ireland Secretary Owen Smith from 2017 until 2018.
“I’m thrilled to have been elected Chair of the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee. I’m looking forward to starting and ensuring the issues that matter to the people of Northern Ireland are properly scrutinised in the interests of all communities.”
– Tonia Antoniazzi MP
What is the NIAC?
