The Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) has today confirmed that they will be fielding a candidate in Belfast East.

Ryan Warren has been selected to contest the seat for the Ulster Unionists.

The seat is currently held by the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) leader Gavin Robinson. Alliance Party leader Naomi Long is also standing in the constituency as she attempts to gain the seat.

Traditional Unionist Voice (TUV) are standing as well, giving unionists three parties to choose from. Sinn Fein are not fielding a candidate in Belfast East.

The DUP’s majority has narrowed to just under 2,000 votes so Naomi Long will be hoping that she can win the seat this year. The Ulster Unionists got just 2,516 votes in 2019.

No nationalist parties stood in 2019, however, this year the Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP) are standing.

The Green Party are also fielding Brian Smyth in the constituency.
