John Blair to stand as Alliance’s general election candidate in South Antrim

Blair was co-opted into the South Antrim seat formerly held by David Ford in 2018 and was re-elected in the 2022 Assembly election.

The Alliance Party has announced that John Blair MLA is to stand in the upcoming general election in the South Antrim constituency.

South Antrim is currently held by the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) with a majority of almost 2,700. Paul Girvan MP won the seat in 2017.

In the 2019 general election, the DUP held the seat, but the Ulster Unionists were close behind.

The Ulster Unionist Party (UUP) have selected Robin Swann to run in South Antrim this year as they hope to take the seat from the DUP.

Commenting on his selection, Blair said: “Delighted to be Alliance’s South Antrim Westminster candidate and offering positive and progressive politics in the campaign ahead.”

“As ever, the top priority is to serve all of the people in South Antrim and deliver for them.”
