Simon Hoare leaves role as Chair of the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee in reshuffle

Simon Hoare has been the Chair of the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee since 2019, but has now been given a ministerial role as part of the Prime Minister's reshuffle.

The now-previous Chair of the Northern Ireland Affairs Committee, Simon Hoare MP, has been appointed as Local Government Minister at the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities.

The Northern Ireland Affairs Select Committee will now be in need of a new chairperson.

The main role of the select committee is to examine the expenditure, administration, and policy of the Northern Ireland Office – the UK government department responsible for overseeing affairs in Northern Ireland.

It is currently made up of 12 members:

  • 4 Conservative
  • 2 Labour
  • 2 DUP
  • 1 Alliance
  • 1 SDLP
  • 1 Independent
