Russell Watton replaces Billy Hutchinson as the new leader of the Progressive Unionist Party

The Progressive Unionist Party has appointed Russell Watton as their new leader.

He replaces Billy Hutchinson, who has stepped down after losing his Belfast City Council seat in the local elections last month.

The party lost two seats in the local elections, going from a total of three elected councillors to now just one – Russell Watton.

Russell Watton is the PUP’s only elected councillor, he sits on Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council.

The former leader, Billy Hutchinson, has accepted the honorary role of Party President.
