Sinn Féin has announced Chloe Devine as their new councillor for the Lurgan DEA (District Electoral Area) on Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council.
She is replacing Sorchá McGeown, who is stepping down from the council due to family commitments. In a post on social media, she said: “After 7 incredible years serving on ABC Council, I’ve made the difficult decision to step down from my role to spend more time with my daughter.”
“It has been a privilege to represent our community, and to work alongside my dedicated Sinn feín colleagues. I am grateful for the trust, support, and friendships I’ve gained throughout this journey.”
“I am delighted that my friend Chloe will be taking over my seat on the council. Chloe is passionate, hardworking, and deeply committed to our community, and I know she will be a fantastic advocate for everyone.”

In a statement, Sinn Fein said: “Chloe is a passionate Sinn Féin representative, community advocate and healthcare worker who is dedicated to building a fairer, more inclusive society for everyone.”
“We want to thank outgoing councillor Sorchá McGeown for her years of dedicated service to the people of Lurgan. Sorchá has been a strong advocate for her community and has worked tirelessly on behalf of local residents. We wish her and her family the very best as she steps away from council duties to focus on her health and family.”
“Congratulations to Chloe on her selection. We know she will be a strong voice for the people of Lurgan and will continue the work of delivering for local communities, standing up for workers and families , and ensuring local people have a strong voice on the council.”
McGeown was first elected to the council in 2019 and was subsequently re-elected in 2023.
